Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL QUESTIONS

A book, painting, supplemental book and documentary about Frank Luke are available... how are they related?
The painting and the documentary are based on the upcoming book entitled THE STAND: The Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr. All three media are directly related and share the same name. The book came first. After a book deal was secured with Schiffer Publishing, the project was expanded to include a one-hour documentary and an original painting for the book's cover.

What if I want to get the book, print and documentary... can I buy them all in a single package?
Yes. THE STAND Super Pack is available on our Order page. It includes many special features that cannot be purchased separately, including:

  • A special expanded two-DVD set of the documentary The Search for THE STAND: Recreating the Final Flight of Lt. Frank Luke, Jr. In addition to the one-hour documentary, special bonus features include the making of Russell Smith's art work, the amazing re-discovery of Luke's 13th victory, French forts along Luke's section of the front line, and much more.

Yes. Award-winning World War I aviation artist Russell Smith created the painting as a unique work for this book.

Who produced the documentary?
The documentary was produced by Onboard Images, a three-time winner of the International Council of Air Shows Best Video Award and provider of programming for Discovery, SPEED and ESPN.

Does the documentary have the same content and information as the book?
No. The documentary tells the inside story of how the book was written and how the final moments of Lt. Frank Luke were deciphered. The producers accompanied the Frank Luke Discovery Expedition to France in July 2007 for more than a week of shooting on location, filming every major overseas site associated with Luke and capturing the discoveries as they were made. Viewers of the documentary will see evidence as it unfolds and learn how this research solved the mystery of Luke's death.
